Queenie Newall (1854-1929)

Sybil “Queenie” Newall is the oldest woman ever to win an Olympic gold medal. At the age of 53, Queenie beat rival Lottie Dod – listed in the Guinness Book of Records as the most versatile female athlete of all time – into the silver medal at the 1908 London Games. Great Britain did not win another medal in women’s archery until Alison Williamson’s bronze in 2004.
